Adventure in Ecuador- Day 10

We ate breakfast in the hostal and then headed to the Middle of the Earth… literally. Our first stop was the Equator. Our tour guide showed us different historical aspects of life in Ecuador followed by several experiments to prove we were on the middle of the earth. This experience took up most of our morning. Before heading to lunch, however, we stopped at the other location, thought to be the middle of the earth until GPS proved otherwise, where a large monument was located. We had about an hour in Quito to eat at the restaurant of our choice. I ended up back at the Magic Bean with Sarah, Sterling, and Lissette. The drinks that had been so marvelous the first visit were disappointing, but the guacamole I had was too die for! Our next stop was the Basilica that Ryan, Clayton, Audrey, and I had visited the previous week. The market was next on our list. Here we purchased all of our Ecuadorian souvenirs. It was a neat place to experience. Our final stop for the night was the florist, where we were able to purchase 2 dozen roses for $3.50! I stocked up on the beautiful flowers to share back home. Crepes and Waffles served us a delicious meal for dinner. Everyone left there satisfied with great food and fellowship. Once back at the hostal for the night, we all gathered in the living room area for our final worship together. It was powerful and a great way to end the trip. Following worship, several people turned in for the night. Although we were all tired, six of us decided to stay up for games. When we were all Dutch-Blitzed out we went back to the living room and spent time trying to connect (unsuccessfully) to the Internet. Our silliness level was high and against our better judgment the camera came out and a photo session ensued. We finally said our goodbyes and headed off to bed… only two hours before the first group had to leave for the airport. I ended up with approximately 3 hours of sleep total, but the friend time was priceless. Mission trip #1 to Ecuador had been a smashing success. Churches were built, friendships made, culture experienced, and, most importantly, spiritual walks were revived. God is so faithful! Tune in for one last episode regarding my journey home from Ecuador…
